In a highly dramatic match featuring a double super-over, India triumphed over Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, securing a 3-0 series victory.
Afghanistan matched India's total of 212 runs, triggering the first super-over. However, another super-over was required as both teams managed 16 runs each in the first super-over. In the second super-over, Afghanistan could only score one run in response to India's 12-run target.
Super-Over 1 - Afghanistan Innings
Gulbadin Naib, who played a pivotal role in the tied match with his 21-ball fifty, came out to bat in the super-over alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Unfortunately, Naib was run out while attempting a double, courtesy of a sharp throw from Virat Kohli. Mohammad Nabi took a single on the first ball, and a boundary resulted from an outside edge by Gurbaz. A single was followed by a substantial six from Nabi over wide long-on.
Despite the controversy on the final delivery, with Nabi running a bye and taking a double after a deflection off his pads, Afghanistan concluded with 16 runs in the super-over.
Super-Over 1 - India Innings
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal secured a single each on the first two balls. Rohit then hit consecutive sixes on the third and fourth deliveries, making it 14 from the first four balls. A single followed, but India fell short of two runs from the last ball. Thus, a second super-over was activated.
Super-Over 2 - India Innings
As per the rules, India batted first in the second super-over, with Rohit Sharma partnering with Rinku Singh. Rohit smashed a six on the first delivery and a thick edge resulted in a boundary on the second. A single on the third delivery was followed by Rinku Singh getting out after edging a delivery to wicket-keeper Gurbaz on his first ball.
Sanju Samson came in next but was run out on the first ball after Rohit attempted a risky single. With two wickets lost, India couldn't face the final delivery, setting Afghanistan a 12-run target.
Super-Over 2 - Afghanistan Innings
Gurbaz and Nabi returned to the crease as leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi defended the 12-run target. Bishnoi made an impact, dismissing Nabi on the first delivery with a top-edge landing in Rinku Singh's hands at long-off. Karim Janat took a single on the second delivery, but Bishnoi struck again on the third delivery to dismiss Gurbaz, securing a dramatic win for India.
Earlier in the match, despite being four down for 22 runs in 4.3 overs after choosing to bat first, Rohit Sharma's record-extending fifty T20I hundred and an unbeaten 190-run partnership with Rinku Singh propelled India to 212/4 in 50 overs.
